The resurgence of TVR

Home / News / The resurgence of TVR

Earlier this month it was announced that TVR would base its new factory in Ebbw Vale, South Wales. The company is set to begin producing vehicles again in 2017 after an 11 year hiatus. Their ten year plan will include four new models with the aim to initially produce around 100 vehicles each year once the new facility is up and running.

This is yet another fantastic investment in the automotive industry in Wales, following the news that Aston Martin will build their new plant in the country. TVR will join a thriving sector that is already home to 40 component manufacturers, including Ford and Toyota, and over 100 businesses throughout the supply chain. The selection of this site in Ebbw Vale is further evidence of how attractive Wales and the UK are for producers in the automotive industry.

The new plant will only be around 20% the size of a conventional facility, but will still satisfy all of TVR’s production needs as they will introduce cutting edge space saving measures and a more simplified assembly process. The approach offers a range of benefits including reducing wasted space, offering better control of overheads and a huge reduction in capital investment.

It is expected that the TVR plant will create an initial 150 motor trade jobs when it is fully operational. This will add to the 18,000 people already employed in the sector in Wales. Recruitment may not stop there, with ambitious plans to produce approximately 2,000 vehicles per year at the site by 2022 as the company targets expansion into international markets.
