The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have recently made available the UK’s new car sales and registration figures for October 2016. It is once again the case that if just a single word were to be used to describe the figures that word would undoubtedly be “growth”.

New registrations for the month came to 180,168. This represents a growth of 1.4% in respect of registrations for the same period last year. It also contributes to a 2.5% year-to-date growth when compared to the 2015 figures.

As per our previous look at growth in the automotive sector, fleet vehicle registrations have been at the heart of driving the figures up. Fleet vehicles accounted for over 50% of the October 2016 market, with the year-to-date registrations increasing by 5.3% compared to 2015.

One of the major and most immediate consequences of this growth is the creation of automotive jobs and a subsequent push for extra staff. A great deal of the success achieved has come through the delivery of service excellence via efficient models of business processes. Both of these factors have been achieved with our unique, market leading approach to recruitment.

These registration figures would be welcome at any time, but are all the more important in the present market conditions. Certain industry commentators speculated that there would be a decline in sales and registrations due to pressures impacting on the market. Whilst all of us within the sector must guard against being complacent or taking success as a given, it is clear that there are more grounds to be positive about growth being truly sustainable.

From our position of being at the forefront of recruiting the best staff to take on automotive jobs we are understandably delighted with the performance reported. The work we do has, in many respects, created the stable environment required for the industry to build success on. In achieving a sustainable model for growth from this foundation, the potential for an increased number of available positions has increased significantly.

We are looking forward to being of service to the many businesses within the automotive sector that trust us to deliver on their recruitment requirements.
