Renault has recently revealed the new design of its fourth-generation Scenic. The images and details highlighted a radical new appearance designed to attract attention and propel the model back to the No. 1 spot in Europe’s compact minivan segment. The plans clearly show a combined effort to retain the practicality of the minivan whilst increasing its aesthetic appeal.

Renault specifically decided to break away from the past with the brand new design. They aimed to create a sexier and much more modern people mover without losing the modularity that played a major role in the success of the previous three generations. The new Scenic features a dual-colour paint scheme. The roof and pillars are a different colour than the body panels and the contrast gives the van a sleeker appearance.

Renault has implemented several styling features in order to give the model a dynamic element. In similarity to the design of the Espace large minivan the Scenic has been complemented with crossover looks. Its style reflects the shift away from the monospace and the movement of boundaries between the minivan and crossover segments.

Renault claims that the bold new design focused on regaining leadership in the sector where it dominated for almost two decades. Since the first Scenic went on sale in 1996 it has added two more generations and the manufacturer has stated that it will continue to offer a five-seat Scenic and a seven-seat Grand scenic.

In 2015 sales of Scenic models decreased by 7.3% in Europe which placed it at No.2 behind the segment leader Citroen C4 Picasso/Grand Picasso but analysts at IHS Automotive predict that the new Scenic will climb to the top of the segment in 2017 with approximately 145,000 sales. The Scenic will make its eagerly awaited debut at the Geneva show on March 1st and be available to buy in the second half of 2016.
