The all new Volvo XC40 Small SUV has been named the 2018 European Car of the Year ahead of the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. The first model to win this prestigious award for Volvo Cars, the premium car maker.

One has said that winning the award was perfect timing, as Volvo have now been awarded three globally available SUVs in its range for the first time. In aims to prove the XC40 is a strong contributor in order to further growth, taking the vehicle to the fastest-growing small SUV segment.

The XC40 win means that the complete line-up of the new global Volvo SUVs have been named Car of the Year in either Europe or North America. Both the large XC90 and mid-sized XC60 had also been awarded the North American Truck/Utility of the Year title over the past 2 years.

The XC40 has been said to have fulfilled its aim in setting a new standard in its segment in terms of; design, connectivity and safety technology. Figures show early orders brought in excess of 20,000 cars across Europe and the US – highlighting that this is both appealing and economical for customers. As well as this, the model is also the first to have enabled a car-sharing feature. This has been enabled by Volvo’s digital key technology and its connected services platform ‘Volvo On Call’. In another first instance, Volvo have also lunched a Volvo Cars’ subscription service ‘Care by Volvo’, which offers car access via a monthly flat-fee subscription rather than ownership.

And there’s more! The XC40 also offers:

  • Safety and Driver assistance features, such as; Pilot Assist, City Safety, Run-Off Road Protection and Mitigation, Cross Traffic Alert with break support, and a 360 degree camera to help with manoeuvres
  • Rejuvenated interiors and storage spaces, these can be found; In the doors, and under the seats. With additional storage for; phones, inductive charging, foldout hooks for small bags and a removable waste bin inside the tunnel console.
