The Institute of the Motor Industry has recently revealed plans to launch a suite of eLearning resources to support body repair and paint apprenticeships at a series of road show events throughout April. The eLearning system of the IMI is currently used in more than 200 colleges in the UK for Light Vehicle Training. It offers a range of multimedia content and study aids to support students throughout their course in a series of specific areas including repairs, diagnostics and technology. It is the first resource of its kind to be offered to apprentices studying Accident Repair qualifications.

The new resources will support the students through the majority of their apprenticeships, and the technical educational materials will cover topics such as surface preparation, metal work, chassis assignment and electrical trim. The paint topics include equipment, preparation and application. Time will also see the addition of further modules.

There is high demand in bodyshops throughout the UK for skilled and qualified individuals that can maximise profitability. Accident repair is an integral part of the automotive sector, and it is crucial that the same level of quality and resources is made available to its apprentices. Training providers have been in need of these resources for some time, and we now expect to see an influx of apprentices taking advantage of the learning materials to aid their pursuit of a career in the motor trade industry.
