The new Audi e-tron will be revealed in September, boasting up to 402bhp and over 249 miles of range.
Audi has revealed some more facts and figures regarding its upcoming all-electric SUV which will be revealed in full on 17th September this year. The e-tron develops 403bhp , However, the maximum power output is only available for either seconds through a boost mode accessed through the ‘S’ drive mode on the drive selector. By default, the e-tron develops 355bhp, enabling a 0-62mph dash in less than six seconds. The prototype’s top speed is electronically limited to 124mph.
It has been said that up to 30 percent of the e-tron’s total range is accounted for by energy recuperation, and that the overwhelming majority of recuperation is handled by the electric motors and not by the breaks. 90 percent of the time, the car’s motors handle breaking rather than the individual wheel breaks. Where the driver will be able to select the level of recuperation using paddles that are mounted to the steering wheel. Ranging from no additional drag on the motor, to a high recuperation where the car can be driven on one pedal. With the recuperation technology, you will also be able to add one kilometre of range for every kilometre travelled downhill, if the most severe recuperation mode is selected.
It has been confirmed that a 95kWh battery pack, made up of 36 shoebox style battery modules is housed on the floor of the vehicle for a better weight distribution. Underpinning the Q5 and Q7, the e-tron will be capable of 249 miles on one single charge on a MBL platform. Not only this, the e-tron will also have an extensive thermal management system, which will enable the car to recharge at a Tesla-beating output of up to 150kW and DC charging stations. Stations capable of charging at such as the IONITY charging points currently being built by a wide group of European manufactures, will mean that the e-tron can recharge from flat to 80 percent in less than half an hour.
As well as this, Audi will also launch what is calls the e-tron Charging Service, which will grant buyers to access around 80 percent of Europe’s charging points, regardless of the operator. Buyers will only have to carry one –e-tron card’, rather than several different cards for multiple charging suppliers. As well as an 11kW home charger which will come included as standard, enabling a 8.5 hour recharge. Or you can opt for a 22kW system, which will cut recharging times to 4.5 hours.
