More Audi e-electric SUV details revealed

The new Audi e-tron will be revealed in September, boasting up to 402bhp and over 249 miles of range.

Audi has revealed some more facts and figures regarding its upcoming all-electric SUV which will be revealed in full on 17th September this year. The e-tron develops 403bhp , However, the maximum power output is only available for either seconds through a boost mode accessed through the ‘S’ drive mode on the drive selector. By default, the e-tron develops 355bhp, enabling a 0-62mph dash in less than six seconds. The prototype’s top speed is electronically limited to 124mph.

It has been said that up to 30 percent of the e-tron’s total range is accounted for by energy recuperation, and that the overwhelming majority of recuperation is handled by the electric motors and not by the breaks. 90 percent of the time, the car’s motors handle breaking rather than the individual wheel breaks. Where the driver will be able to select the level of recuperation using paddles that are mounted to the steering wheel. Ranging from no additional drag on the motor, to a high recuperation where the car can be driven on one pedal. With the recuperation technology, you will also be able to add one kilometre of range for every kilometre travelled downhill, if the most severe recuperation mode is selected.

It has been confirmed that a 95kWh battery pack, made up of 36 shoebox style battery modules is housed on the floor of the vehicle for a better weight distribution. Underpinning the Q5 and Q7, the e-tron will be capable of 249 miles on one single charge on a MBL platform. Not only this, the e-tron will also have an extensive thermal management system, which will enable the car to recharge at a Tesla-beating output of up to 150kW and DC charging stations. Stations capable of charging at such as the IONITY charging points currently being built by a wide group of European manufactures, will mean that the e-tron can recharge from flat to 80 percent in less than half an hour.

As well as this, Audi will also launch what is calls the e-tron Charging Service, which will grant buyers to access around 80 percent of Europe’s charging points, regardless of the operator. Buyers will only have to carry one –e-tron card’, rather than several different cards for multiple charging suppliers. As well as an 11kW home charger which will come included as standard, enabling a 8.5 hour recharge. Or you can opt for a 22kW system, which will cut recharging times to 4.5 hours.

Vauxhall GT X Experimental concept teased

Vauxhall’s new concept car has been teased ahead of full reveal – previewing what is said to be a ‘daring’ design for the Vauxhall brand.

It has been said that the vehicle embraces the brands core values – hinting towards a production model in the mid 2020’s. The first image comes one year after the PSA Peugeot and Citroen bought Vauxhall and Open outright. While the image can leave a lot to the imagination, it is still giving us the best look yet at the firm’s sharp front lightening design. A signature look that is likely to feature across the years in years’ to come.

The GT X Experimental doesn’t have a conventional grille like most others, giving an inkling towards a fully-electric drivetrain. Whilst there is no information on what form the concept will take, the cleverly draped sheet suggests a considerably conventional hatchback shape. Along with this, the two tone bodywork gives it a more modern look, while the darkened lower trim could signal a degree of cross-over inspired styling. The car will also be the first of its kind to wear Vauxhalls new ‘face’, this is said to be based upon the Vauxhall Compass, where two aces intersect the Griffin badge, along with wing-shaped LED daytime running lights. The interior or this is inspired by Apple, with a truly different angle, Vauxhall are aiming to make the specs sharper and more relevant to their core values.

The GT X is also said to influence other new Vauxhall models such as the Vauxhall Astra, which is due to come in show rooms later this decade.

Lamborghini unveils 910-horsepower electric supercar at Paris Auto Show

The supercar hybrid world is set to continue in its expansion with the unveiling of the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 at the 2014 Paros Auto Show.

The supercar hybrid world is set to continue in its expansion with the unveiling of the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 at the 2014 Paros Auto Show.
Featuring a total system output of 910 horsepower from a combination of a 610-hp 5.2 litre V-10 engine and 300 hp from three electric motors, the Asterion is unique in Lamborghini’s line-up for its unusual powertrain, as well as its unusual styling.

At present, the Asterioni is claimed as a “Technology Demonstrator”, but one using realistic present-day technologies and in-house expertise. In aims to significantly reduce emissions on a car in this moment, with plug-in electrification which would appear to be the best option due to Lamborghini’s truly outstanding driving experience.

The LPI 910-4 is capable of up to 50km of all electric driving range. The result is claimed to ease CO2 emissions of 98 g/km, and a European gas mileage of 4.12 litters per 100km. Apart from the 5.2-litre V-10 engine and plug-in hybrid three-motor set up, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmit ion and a lithium-ion battery mounted in the central tunnel to complete the drivetrain equipment. The three motors will include one at each front wheel, then another sandwiched between the V-10 engine and dual-clutch transmission. As a result, the Asterion can drive in both standard hybrid modes and pure electric.

Now to the good stuff, Performance of the Asterion is suitably super for a Lambourghini: 0-62mph takes just 3.0 seconds from other current models, but will also fit the overall Lambourghini brand theme. Inside the cabin, the seating is higher and apparently more comfortable reflecting more of an everyday look.

Ford Ranger Raptor coming to the UK priced from £40,000

Ford will bring the crazy-looking Ranger Raptor performance pick-to to the UK in February, Auto Express have exclusively revealed. The performance pick-up will be arriving here early in 2019, priced at around £40,000.

Within the UK, it has been said that the Ford Ranger is already one of the best-selling pick-ups, so seemingly a performance version would be a natural fit within the pick-up line. Built in Thailand, the Raptor has undergone a significant makeover by Ford Performance, the company that is responsible for the F-150 Raptor and GT Supercar and Focus RS.

But what’s new about the Ford Ranger:

  • New Grille
  • Extra ground clearance
  • LED fog lamps in the front bumper, which has been made out of composite materials to better withstand any dents and bumps
  • Flared wheel arches to accommodate for larger wheels
  • Long-travel suspension
  • Aluminium side steps, with puncture holes to release any sand, snow or mud
  • More supportive seats to support high speed off-roading
  • Tougher chassis frame
  • Upgraded breaks
  • ‘Bash plate’ underneath

I’m sure what you really would like to know is, how fast? What litre is the Raptor?

Well, the Raptor comes with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine, with 210bhp and 500Nm torque. As well as this, the Raptor will drive through a ten-speed automatic gearbox, similar to the F-150 Raptor, to ensure optimum performance in any weather conditions. There are also six different driving modes to choose from. Two for on-road use, and four for off-roading.

Once more, even the standard sat-nav will come with an off-road feature, which will allow the driver to leave a ‘breadcrumb’ trail to retrace their steps in unfamiliar environments. This is all part of the Sync3 infotainment system, which also offers Electronic Stability Control, Driver-Assist technology, Trailer Sway Control and a Rear View Camera.

Volvo XC40 will be the first all-electric Volvo

Volvo has highlighted it will launch its first all-electric car in 2019, but mentioned that the model will be hard to come by. It has said that officials are going to produce an initial electric model which will be variant of XC40 crossover, and is said to arrive very soon after the Polestar 2.

Details on the Polestar 2 are sketchy, but it is expected to appear in 2019 as a less-expensive alternative to the Polestar 1, which Volvo had incorporated, a £117,740 plug-in hybrid coupe, that will launch as an independent brand. As well as this, it is said that the electric Volvo XC40 could be a rival to Tesla’s upcoming Model Y, the crossover companion to the Model 3.

Last year, it was announced that the electric Volvo would have a range of 250 miles and would cost between £26,584-£30,382. It has also been said that the larger XC90 crossover would also get an all-electric variant in 2021, in aims to offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid or an all-electric version of each vehicle made beginning in 2019.

Lamborghini Miura SVR restored to former glory

Italian firm’s restoration teams have restored the only ever made Miura SVR to its original specification.

Lamborghini have revealed it’s fully restored Miura SVR and brought it back to life by the Italian firm’s Polo Storico department which took 19 months to complete. The Miura SVR was said to be one of the most extreme versions of the iconic supercar ever produced with only one ever made, having spent most of it’s like in Japan. The SVR was based on the already modified Miura Jota.

Chassis number 3781, with body number 383 and engine number 2511. Originally the vehicle had been spray painted in Verde Miura with black upholstery, and changed ownership no less than 8 times.

Customer demand was said to be very much the reason why the Miura Jota and SVR models had been created. The original Jota development car was diminished in an accident but Lamborghini would later build only 5 examples for customers who have asked due to the coverage the accident generated.

One has said that the challenge of restoring the vehicle was more daunting than first expected, as the vehicle had arrived in sant’Agata in pieces, and that although the parts were all there, modifications such as four-point safety belts, sporty seats and a roll bar had been installed.
