What type of information is collected from you?

When you visit our website or contact us to register your interests in our organisation’s services. We will collect personal information from you. This information will include your name, address, e-mail address, telephone numbers as well as the type of roles you are interested in. When successful in being offered a role, we will also keep on file, further information to support your right to work in the UK such as copies of your passport and relevant supporting documentation, required by UK employment law. You may also wish to give further information such as your date of birth, nationality and ethnic background at your discretion.

We gather this information in order to contact you, process your applications and store you on our database. We will also keep you aware of potential, suitable roles in the automotive sector by contacting you, either by phone, post or e-mail.

How do we collect information from you?

We obtain information about you when you use our services like visiting our website, registering your C.V. / details on our website or indeed, confirming your interest in a role we are advertising.

Further to this, we also source potential candidates and receive information regarding potentially suitable candidates through external job board websites. These external job sites are designed to assist us in the recruitment process by supplying us with your information. When you choose to register / upload your details on these sites such as your C.V. and contact information, you are agreeing to their privacy policy which is not in any way affiliated to John Gibson Associates’ privacy policy.

How is your information used?

We may use your information to:

  • Consider your suitability for roles we are recruiting for.
  • To contact you, either by phone, post, E-mail and text message regarding:
    1. Job opportunities you may be interested in.
    2. To update / keep our information up-to-date.
    3. Receive feedback on our products and services.
    4. To notify you of any changes in our organisation.
    5. Respond to any communications you have initiated.
  • Also, where a job offer has been made, we will be required to provide your potential, new employer with personal details such as your contact information, potential references and your C.V. Your contact information will only be sent to a client when a job offer is made and / or before with your consent.

Our retention periods for personal data are constantly assessed to comply with legislation. We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as is necessary for the recruitment process or for a period of 6 years. As a recruitment consultancy, we are legally required to hold the listed types of information to fulfil our statutory obligations.

Who has access to your information?

Our priority is your entitlement to privacy and as an organisation, we will ensure this is protected at all times. We shall not sell, rent or loan your information to any third parties. Upon a successful appointment / job offer and with your permission, we may pass your personal information to our clients to enable them to contact you and also, draw up and send necessary contracts of employment to you. Your personal information will also be available to all employees of John Gibson Associates.

Communication

You have the opportunity to decide the communication you receive from us or indeed, if you do not wish to receive any at all. The type of communication you can expect to receive from us can include the latest roles you may be interested in or news from the automotive industry. GDPR changes to legislation comes into effect on the 25th May 2018. We will not contact you for marketing purposes after this point, if you have ‘opted out’. However, if you have made no indication to us of your preference, we will continue to contact you until otherwise notified, under the legitimate interest proviso.

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information John Gibson Associates hold about you at any time and we will supply this, free of charge, commensurate with this legislation. This information can include your personal information and confirmation of your data being processed.

Trust Ford wins Fleet dealer of the year award

The Ford-owned retailer, TrustFord, is again celebrating after winning the ‘Fleet Dealer of the year’ award at the Fleet News awards at what has been described as ‘stiff competition’. The awards are focused fleet providers, celebrating the very best in the sector. TrustFord chairman and chief executive, Stuart Foulds supported the award, describing TrustFord as a “major player” in Fleet. They are reported as selling in excess of 52,000 cars and vans throughout the entire United Kingdom. He is also quoted, saying:

“Our investment in the seven-acre Long Marston preparation and delivery center is now in full flow and that combined with an expanding fleet of mobile service vans means we really can deliver ‘Best in class’ service to our customers.”

“The fleet team do a fantastic job in both sales and support and Fleet is one of my key areas of targeted growth for 2018.”

Renault-Nissan hit the sales top spot

Renault-Nissan are celebrating hitting the top spot as the world’s biggest seller of light vehicles in 2017. Nissan motors boast a record high of 5.82 million with Renault reporting 3.76 million in sales. The group was helped along by the inclusion of Mitsubishi motors with sales of 1.03 million which together, knocked the Volkswagen group off the leader position held in the previous year.

It could be said that the organisational strategy of combining franchises with a focus on sharing parts and processes are paying dividends as companies look to market and develop ranges, especially in respect of hybrid / electric models and technology.

It is reported, Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has pledged to make scale an advantage and is focused on increasing savings to 10 billion euros ($12 billion) by 2022 with a view to increase annual sales to 14 million units.

The ‘future’ may not be as far away as some might think

With what sounds like the chiming of a new age of motoring, the ‘future’ may not be as far away as some might think. A number of sources predict the forthcoming UK budget announcements will clear the way for driverless cars and include a possible £400m for electric car charging points and £100m to boost clean car sales, which we can assume will include incentives for electric and hybrid vehicles.

It is said that Chancellor Philip Hammond will announce on Wednesday that driverless cars will be allowed to be tested without any human operator inside or outside the car, signaling a potential change in the legal constraints and rules that apply in many other EU nations, and much of the US.

Of course, the current legal constrictions on autonomous vehicles will need to be re-hauled, to allow the UK to become a world leader in self-driving cars. A significant increase in driver-less cars has been reported within the sector of late with the likes of Jaguar Land Rover, Ford and Tata Motors confirming trials of self-driving vehicles on public roads for the first time. The plans will help the UK operate in-line with countries such as America and Singapore, who have been keen in leading the way with this research.

Mike Hawes, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has been reported as saying “We support government’s measures to make the UK one of the best places in the world to develop, test and sell connected and autonomous vehicles. These vehicles will transform our roads and society, dramatically reducing accidents and saving thousands of lives every year, while adding billions of pounds to the economy. We look forward to continuing industry’s collaboration with government to ensure the UK can be among the first to grasp the benefits of this exciting new technology.”

VERTU MOTORS PLC. HALF YEAR RESULTS SOAR

Automotive retailer Vertu Motors, which has more than 100 dealerships across the UK under the Bristol Street Motors, Farnell and Macklin brands among others, has reported record half-year pre-tax profits.

It is said that the Gateshead-headquartered company generated a profit before tax of £24.2m in the six months to 31 August 2017, a 29.4 per cent hike on the £18.7m reported last year.

Revenue for the six months remained flat at £1.45bn.

Chief Executive Robert Forrester is reported as saying:

“The board is pleased to see further growth in used car volumes and aftersales revenues against a back drop of the weakness of sterling reducing the supply and increasing the prices of new cars.”

“Pleasingly, underlying operating expenses reduced year on year in the period as a result of management focus at a time of increasing costs across the industry.”

Recently Hyundai have unveiled their new Hot Hatch, available with 242bhp or 271bhp, and price tag undercutting key rivals…

The i30N is set to go on sale early in 2018 with prices starting from £24,995 for its most basic 242bhp model, and UK buyers will be offered the car with its optional performance pack, boasting an impressive 271bhp. Hyundai have taken a fresh stance on their current i30 model, including twin exhaust exits, rear spoiler and a new front bumper.

With competition rife in the Hot Hatch market, the i30N certainly doesn’t look out of place and is available for a fraction of the price of its competitors.

Reported Rise in Car Theft

It has been reported car theft figures have risen, almost as much as 30% in the past 3 years.

The Office for National Statistics suggested that in 2014, less than 70,000 cars were reported stolen, compared to around 85,000 last year.

The low figures set in 2014 were said to be attributed to manufacturer development of security measures such as engine immobilisers and keyless technology. However, in recent times car thieves have developed sophisticated measures to counter these developments.

It has been said, vehicle owners are moving back to more traditional security measures such as steering locks with a sharp rise in sales of these devices being reported by retailers in recent times.

Despite these figures, manufactures offer some solace in respect of future developments to help reverse security threats such as signal blockers and cloning devices, by investing billions in anti-theft measures.

Ford Announce New Scrapping Incentive

A new scrapping incentive has been announced by Ford in relation to all vehicles, registered before the 1st January 2010 (and owned for over 90 days).

The scheme has been heralded by Andy Barratt, Ford Britain’s chairman and managing director as “…part of a journey” to improve air quality.

Under Ford’s scheme; cars over 7 years old, from any manufacturer, can be exchanged in the UK, until the end of December. This will encompass both diesel and petrol vehicles, an incentive differing from similar offers by some other manufacturers. Being in respect of part-exchanges; Consumers could be given between £2,000 and £4,950 off a brand new Ford car and between £3,650 and £7,000 off a new commercial vehicle, dependent on the type of new model purchased.

Ford have offered “peace of mind that Ford will manage the scrappage of your old vehicle responsibly”.
