Audi sets new worldwide record for Q1 2018

It has reportedly been a record-breaking Q1 for Audi as over 463,500 vehicles have been sold worldwide, making this the best first quarter in the company’s history. The January to March period has seen a 9.8% increase from the same quarter in 2017.

According to the Audi MediaCenter, there has been a particularly high demand and outstanding performance in China (+41.9%) and North America (+10.2%), where both regions have had their strongest March ever. However, March 2017 continues to hold the record for Europe, with this years’ sales figures coming in slightly below those of last year (-4.7%).

Of course, with the looming introduction of the second-generation A1, Q3 and A6, plus the recently introduced A7, Audi can confidently expect to post even better figures towards 2018’s close.

If you would like to explore your career opportunities working with prestigious brands such as Audi, we would be delighted to help – whether you’re a professional in Sales or Aftersales, we have something for everyone. Next Generation Ford Focus Teaser

Some details of the new Ford Focus have been revealed in a teaser video, ahead of its scheduled reveal in Europe and China next week.

The video shows no more than about 11 seconds of footage of the vehicle across 4 close up shots, but it’s enough to highlight some of the more upmarket features, including chic lettering across the tailgate, a fashioned hood and newly modelled LED headlights.

It has been reported that Ford’s Head of Global Markets has suggested that the new generation Focus will be more high-class than the current model. The Focus is currently Ford’s second most popular vehicle after the Fiesta, in terms of Europe’s best-sellers, and it was the fourth most popular mainstream compact car in Europe in 2017, following the VW Golf, Skoda Octavia and Opel/Vauxhall Astra.

If you want to explore your career opportunities with the likes of Ford and many other market leading brands, John Gibson Associates are here to help. Geneva International Motor Show Begins This Week

The Geneva International Motor Show is the largest event on the motoring calendar, and today opened its doors to the press for exclusive access before opening to the public on Thursday.

Now in its 88th year, this annual event sees the global car industry and associated media set up camp in Geneva for 10 days (12, if you include press days) of showcasing the newest, most innovative models alongside revamped favourites. Truly looking to the future of the automotive industry, it’s no surprise that more and more fuel-efficient and electric vehicles make an appearance each year. Yesterday, the ‘Car of the Year 2018′ award was won by the Volvo XC40, leading by a clear mile with a huge 83 points separating it from its competitors.

The Motor Show is situated a short distance from Geneva Airport, practically on the doorstep at just 2km away, making it a prime location for a day trip or short break for UK visitors wanting to experience the fun first-hand.

A fresh new look for the Peugeot 508

An all-new design has emerged for the Peugeot 508, as we are introduced to the ‘Fastback’ – which will be available to order in Summer 2018. Hopefully the innovative new design will make this model a stronger competitor in the midsize segment of the European market, where premium manufacturers are currently prevailing over volume.

The new model has received positive reviews so far, showing off a low, sleek coupe design and frameless doors, and will be available in 6 petrol and diesel engines. The car boasts advanced driver aids including a night vision system, which uses an infrared camera to detect pedestrians or animals in the road at night or in poor visibility. Peugeot have publicised the details of the elegant interior, which features a 10″ HD capacitive touchscreen and configurable 12.3″ digital instrument panel, plus seat massage functions and FOCAL Hi-Fi system.

Will Porsche increase its production of the Mission E?

Word on the street is that Porsche is considering increasing the annual production of the Mission E to total over 20,000 cars.

The electric sports car is due to make its debut in 2019, and it is said that there has been sufficient early interest from customers to suggest that Porsche buyers will not oppose the switch from traditional to electric engines. Additionally, the Mission E may use underpinnings that could be suitable for other brands within the Volkswagen group, significantly cutting costs by using a joint EV platform for Porsche and Audi.

The initial positive enquiries from customers have resulted in great optimism for Porsche about the predicted success of the Mission E, hence their exploring ways in which to raise production capacity. It has been speculated that the brand expects to double its investment in hybrid and electric vehicles to upwards of €6 billion in the next 5 years.

Porsche are also considering whether to electrify its Macan SUV, a decision that could be made in the near future. Other partially electrified models are proving popular as well, including the Panamera and Cayenne. Supposedly, in Europe, around 60% of Panamera vehicles have recently been delivered with a hybrid drivetrain.

If you dream of working with luxury vehicles, contact us at John Gibson Associates to explore your opportunities with the likes of Porsche, McLaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin and more. Lamborghini Urus to be revealed in Italy today

The Italian firm will be launching its first SUV model in the newly expanded Sant’Agate Bolognese factory later today. The Urus is predicted to become Lamborghini’s best-selling model, and it has been suggested that the supercar maker’s sales may double to 7,000 units by 2019.

The introduction of a new SUV model aims to expand their customer base and attract those who would never have considered the brand previously, due to the fact that previous Lamborghini models are not typically for everyday use.

Lamborghini have released a series of photographs and short videos in the run-up to the big reveal, showing off the Urus’ advanced technical features and stylish detailing. The vehicle boasts active anti-roll suspension technology similar to those of the Bentley Bentayga and the Audi Q7, alongside an innovative traction control system with a number of settings including snow, sand and dirt.

It is said that the Urus range will feature the brand’s first plug-in hybrid powertrain, and will be the only hybrid in the Lamborghini line-up for a few years yet.

If you dream of working with luxury vehicles, contact us at John Gibson Associates to explore your opportunities with the likes of Lamborghini, McLaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, and more. A new approach for Inchcape

Inchcape UK has revealed that the structure of their sales teams, salary and commission plans are due to change in January 2018, according to an announcement made last week.

The company has divided its teams into ‘new’ and ‘used’ vehicle sales, so that each employee will be able to specialise in one of the two and therefore improve the tailored service experience they strive to deliver to each customer. The basic salary for a Sales Executive is said to have seen a substantial increase to up to £22,000 per annum, with no upper earnings limit for the overall package.

It is believed that the aim of these changes is to build a team of expert consultants in both the new and used car sales sectors, thus creating the experience of all customers having a personal advisor to speak to, as opposed to a sales person. The aim of increasing the basic salary is for Sales Executives to feel less dependent on their commission earnings, so that team members can turn their focus to the customer experience.

In 2016, Marshall Motor Group announced an initiative of a £25,000 first year earnings guarantee for new Sales Executive employees, to attract newcomers to the motor industry and encourage staff loyalty to the group. Reportedly, the aim is to bring in employees with the right values, attitude and ethos for the group, even those without prior experience in the motor trade. All new recruits benefit from a structured training programme prior to starting work ‘on the floor’ to ensure thorough understanding of the job role and how to meet and exceed the groups’ customer service standards.

If you’re considering a career in car sales, or would like to explore opportunities with Inchcape, Marshalls or any other motor trade jobs, we would be delighted to hear from you. Lookers opens UK’s largest single brand JLR Arch Concept Facility

Lookers PLC has now opened its newest dealership; a £7 million Land Rover retail site in Colchester, which is now the UK’s largest single brand JLR Arch Concept showroom.

The new site includes space for new car display of 9 vehicles, 60 used vehicles and a 15-bay workshop for servicing and repairs. The dealership has moved about 3 miles from Cowdray Avenue to a new location on Axial Way, and has become Looker’ sixth Arch Concept Jaguar Land Rover site in the UK.

Colchester Land Rover’s Head of Business has reportedly commented that they are “extremely excited about the new retail site as it encapsulates everything that is best about Land Rover, namely cutting edge design matched only by a customer experience that is second to none.”

The site will be utilising advanced CitNow eVHC technology to monitor vehicles arriving at the drive-through Service area, as well as filming any work carried out, and facilities are in place to accommodate the new arrivals of hybrids and electric vehicles over the coming years.

Some of the new site features include lounge areas, a bar serving drinks and cakes, a brand heritage display and area to browse Land Rover merchandise, to name but a few.

London’s T-Charge comes into effect today

In an attempt to improve air quality in London, drivers of older, more polluting vehicles will now have to pay almost twice as much to drive in central London.

The T-Charge is a £10 daily tax effective from today, which applies primarily to diesel and petrol vehicles registered before 2006 and do not meet the “Euro 4” 2005 European directive to regulate vehicle emissions. The new tax will be applied from 07:00-18:00 on weekdays which is in line with the existing congestion charges, and will result in some drivers paying £21.50 a day to drive in these areas.

It has been suggested that over 9,000 London citizens die prematurely each year from health conditions caused by the polluted air.

The T-Charge is the first of a series of new rates being introduced in London, and is part of an £875 million effort by the Mayor’s office to address air pollution in London. It is due to be replaced by a stricter Ultra-Low Emission Zone in 2020, although the Mayor of London is said to be consulting on bringing this forward to 2019. This will mean diesel cars registered before September 2015 and petrol cars registered before 2006 will face a £12.50 charge.

Ford Announce Intention to Recruit Technicians

Ford has announced its intentions to recruit 1,000 technicians for its UK network, with suggestions that annual salaries could be as high as £45,000.

The recruitment demand is due to the increasing complexity of technology in Ford vehicles, and the shortage of qualified technicians currently operating in the UK as more new drivers take to the road each day. From apprenticeships to top-level master technician roles, jobs are available within Ford’s dealerships, or working with fleet customers as part of their mobile servicing system.

Andy Barratt, chairman and managing director of Ford of Britain, is reported as saying:

“This is a fantastic opportunity to join the UK’s biggest network, representing the country’s favourite car and van brand. Ford’s product range is growing almost as fast as its technology, and although we value traditional technical skills, we’re looking for ambitious and flexible technicians who can join us on our journey to hybrids, battery electric vehicles and autonomous technology – and beyond.”

Ford’s new technicians will benefit from training for all levels and abilities, at their Henry Ford Academy in Daventry and is being partnered with the Motor Ombudsman.

Here at John Gibson Associates; we are proud to work directly with Ford retail so we will be delighted to hear from you, to show you just where we can help you take the next step in your career.
