JAPANESE BRANDS TOP CAR RELIABILITY SURVEY

During a recent survey supported by What Car?, including data from over 14,000 cars from new to three years old, they found 6 of the top 10 brands were Japanese.

The survey found that 30% of the 14,208 participants revealed they had experienced a fault with their car in the last 12 months.

The most reliable cars were also manufactured by Japanese brands. With the Toyota Aygo, Honda Jazz and Lexus CT200h all topping their respective groups and found to be fault-free. As expected, Germany were their closest challengers, the VW Tiguan Diesel, Audi A3 saloon and Audi A3 cabriolet also leading their relevant categories.

London’s T-Charge comes into effect today

In an attempt to improve air quality in London, drivers of older, more polluting vehicles will now have to pay almost twice as much to drive in central London.

The T-Charge is a £10 daily tax effective from today, which applies primarily to diesel and petrol vehicles registered before 2006 and do not meet the “Euro 4” 2005 European directive to regulate vehicle emissions. The new tax will be applied from 07:00-18:00 on weekdays which is in line with the existing congestion charges, and will result in some drivers paying £21.50 a day to drive in these areas.

It has been suggested that over 9,000 London citizens die prematurely each year from health conditions caused by the polluted air.

The T-Charge is the first of a series of new rates being introduced in London, and is part of an £875 million effort by the Mayor’s office to address air pollution in London. It is due to be replaced by a stricter Ultra-Low Emission Zone in 2020, although the Mayor of London is said to be consulting on bringing this forward to 2019. This will mean diesel cars registered before September 2015 and petrol cars registered before 2006 will face a £12.50 charge.

Automotive Recruitment Opportunities for Technicians

As one of the leading names for UK automotive recruitment we carefully monitor the job market for the sector. In doing this we are able to identify areas where our services can bring success for both employers and candidates. At this time we have noted a shortage of technicians. This is a shortage which must be addressed urgently.

The shortage of technicians needed to fill motor industry jobs has been a frequent subject in the news during 2017. An interesting aspect of it has been that it is a worldwide trend. By looking at how other nations are managing this issue we can learn how to further enhance our role in the UK automotive recruitment sector.

We have noted a number of reasons for this shortage. An important one to highlight is the increased need for technicians. There are an ever increasing number of vehicles on our roads each passing year. For the last 5 years this increase has not been met with a similar rise in the number of technicians working in the sector.

Another factor is the specialist skills required for many types of vehicles on the road today. Technological advances have made cars considerably more complex equipment than they once were. In driving the automotive recruitment sector forward we always encourage applicants in the field to take courses and training so that they can master the new and required technology of today.

It should, however, be noted that it is not just new cars which need technicians. Coutts, famous for being the Queen’s bank, has noted that the value of classic investment cars has fallen by some 10% in the last year. The main reason for this is a lack of technicians able to restore such vintage vehicles.

We know that one of the best ways to address this shortage is through our automotive recruitment services. For many years we have been the number one name for several companies seeking to make long term, successful appointments. We are very proud of the record we have when it comes to the appointment of technicians to motor industry jobs.

If you are an auto mechanic looking for the right role in the industry we would like to hear from you. Our team of automotive recruitment experts will be delighted to assist you in finding the perfect role for your skills.

Automotive retailer Vertu Motors, which has more than 100 dealerships across the UK under the Bristol Street Motors, Farnell and Macklin brands among others, has reported record half-year pre-tax profits.

Revenue for the six months remained flat at £1.45bn.

Ford Announce Intention to Recruit Technicians

Ford has announced its intentions to recruit 1,000 technicians for its UK network, with suggestions that annual salaries could be as high as £45,000.

The recruitment demand is due to the increasing complexity of technology in Ford vehicles, and the shortage of qualified technicians currently operating in the UK as more new drivers take to the road each day. From apprenticeships to top-level master technician roles, jobs are available within Ford’s dealerships, or working with fleet customers as part of their mobile servicing system.

Andy Barratt, chairman and managing director of Ford of Britain, is reported as saying:

“This is a fantastic opportunity to join the UK’s biggest network, representing the country’s favourite car and van brand. Ford’s product range is growing almost as fast as its technology, and although we value traditional technical skills, we’re looking for ambitious and flexible technicians who can join us on our journey to hybrids, battery electric vehicles and autonomous technology – and beyond.”

Ford’s new technicians will benefit from training for all levels and abilities, at their Henry Ford Academy in Daventry and is being partnered with the Motor Ombudsman.

Here at John Gibson Associates; we are proud to work directly with Ford retail so we will be delighted to hear from you, to show you just where we can help you take the next step in your career.
