Lamborghini Urus to be revealed in Italy today

The Italian firm will be launching its first SUV model in the newly expanded Sant’Agate Bolognese factory later today. The Urus is predicted to become Lamborghini’s best-selling model, and it has been suggested that the supercar maker’s sales may double to 7,000 units by 2019.

The introduction of a new SUV model aims to expand their customer base and attract those who would never have considered the brand previously, due to the fact that previous Lamborghini models are not typically for everyday use.

Lamborghini have released a series of photographs and short videos in the run-up to the big reveal, showing off the Urus’ advanced technical features and stylish detailing. The vehicle boasts active anti-roll suspension technology similar to those of the Bentley Bentayga and the Audi Q7, alongside an innovative traction control system with a number of settings including snow, sand and dirt.

It is said that the Urus range will feature the brand’s first plug-in hybrid powertrain, and will be the only hybrid in the Lamborghini line-up for a few years yet.

If you dream of working with luxury vehicles, contact us at John Gibson Associates to explore your opportunities with the likes of Lamborghini, McLaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, and more. We recruit for automotive jobs across the UK, and would be delighted to see what we can do to help you take the next steps in your career.

A new approach for Inchcape

Inchcape UK has revealed that the structure of their sales teams, salary and commission plans are due to change in January 2018, according to an announcement made last week.

The company has divided its teams into ‘new’ and ‘used’ vehicle sales, so that each employee will be able to specialise in one of the two and therefore improve the tailored service experience they strive to deliver to each customer. The basic salary for a Sales Executive is said to have seen a substantial increase to up to £22,000 per annum, with no upper earnings limit for the overall package.

It is believed that the aim of these changes is to build a team of expert consultants in both the new and used car sales sectors, thus creating the experience of all customers having a personal advisor to speak to, as opposed to a sales person. The aim of increasing the basic salary is for Sales Executives to feel less dependent on their commission earnings, so that team members can turn their focus to the customer experience.

In 2016, Marshall Motor Group announced an initiative of a £25,000 first year earnings guarantee for new Sales Executive employees, to attract newcomers to the motor industry and encourage staff loyalty to the group. Reportedly, the aim is to bring in employees with the right values, attitude and ethos for the group, even those without prior experience in the motor trade. All new recruits benefit from a structured training programme prior to starting work ‘on the floor’ to ensure thorough understanding of the job role and how to meet and exceed the groups’ customer service standards.

If you’re considering a career in car sales, or would like to explore opportunities with Inchcape, Marshalls or any other motor trade jobs, we would be delighted to hear from you. The ‘future’ may not be as far away as some might think

With what sounds like the chiming of a new age of motoring, the ‘future’ may not be as far away as some might think. A number of sources predict the forthcoming UK budget announcements will clear the way for driverless cars and include a possible £400m for electric car charging points and £100m to boost clean car sales, which we can assume will include incentives for electric and hybrid vehicles.

It is said that Chancellor Philip Hammond will announce on Wednesday that driverless cars will be allowed to be tested without any human operator inside or outside the car, signaling a potential change in the legal constraints and rules that apply in many other EU nations, and much of the US.

Of course, the current legal constrictions on autonomous vehicles will need to be re-hauled, to allow the UK to become a world leader in self-driving cars. A significant increase in driver-less cars has been reported within the sector of late with the likes of Jaguar Land Rover, Ford and Tata Motors confirming trials of self-driving vehicles on public roads for the first time. The plans will help the UK operate in-line with countries such as America and Singapore, who have been keen in leading the way with this research.

Mike Hawes, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has been reported as saying “We support government’s measures to make the UK one of the best places in the world to develop, test and sell connected and autonomous vehicles. These vehicles will transform our roads and society, dramatically reducing accidents and saving thousands of lives every year, while adding billions of pounds to the economy. We look forward to continuing industry’s collaboration with government to ensure the UK can be among the first to grasp the benefits of this exciting new technology.”

Here at John Gibson Associates we are delighted to work alongside companies at the head of development within the automotive sector. We offer recruitment solutions within the traditional dealerships environment as well as manufacturing and product development.

New models announced to stimulate the pickup market

It has recently been reported that Renault, Fiat, Mercedes-Benz and, further into the future, PSA Group are all launching pickup vehicles to take on current market leader Ford.

The European pickup market is still relatively small. In the first half 80,300 were sold across Europe, a third of which went to customers in the UK, which is the region’s largest pickup market, according to data from market analysts.

It’s been suggested that the most important recent pickup launch could be the Mercedes X-Class, which is the first ever pickup from a premium manufacturer. It can be used as a rugged, all-terrain pickup, but also as a vehicle for urban lifestyles and families. However, established major players Mitsubishi, Nissan and Toyota have each introduced an all-new version of their pickup mainstays in the last 18 months, while Ford, Isuzu and Volkswagen have updated their models – with VW introducing a 3.0-litre V6 engine that makes the Amarok the only six-cylinder pickup currently available in the UK.

Another new name in the pickup market is Renault. Its Alaskan pickup is already on sale in some countries, and is expected in the UK in 2018. The Manufacturer plans to move forward from the regional to the global market. With this news, at John Gibson Associates we see this as an exciting time in the industry. So if you’d like to explore job opportunities in this sector or any other area of the Automotive Industry we would be delighted to hear from you.

London’s T-Charge comes into effect today

In an attempt to improve air quality in London, drivers of older, more polluting vehicles will now have to pay almost twice as much to drive in central London.

The T-Charge is a £10 daily tax effective from today, which applies primarily to diesel and petrol vehicles registered before 2006 and do not meet the “Euro 4” 2005 European directive to regulate vehicle emissions. The new tax will be applied from 07:00-18:00 on weekdays which is in line with the existing congestion charges, and will result in some drivers paying £21.50 a day to drive in these areas.

It has been suggested that over 9,000 London citizens die prematurely each year from health conditions caused by the polluted air.

The T-Charge is the first of a series of new rates being introduced in London, and is part of an £875 million effort by the Mayor’s office to address air pollution in London. It is due to be replaced by a stricter Ultra-Low Emission Zone in 2020, although the Mayor of London is said to be consulting on bringing this forward to 2019. This will mean diesel cars registered before September 2015 and petrol cars registered before 2006 will face a £12.50 charge.

Here at John Gibson Associates; we are proud to work not only inside and outside of the capital but indeed, throughout the entire UK and internationally too. We will be delighted to hear from you, to show you just where we can help you take the next step in your career.

Automotive Recruitment Opportunities for Technicians

As one of the leading names for UK automotive recruitment we carefully monitor the job market for the sector. In doing this we are able to identify areas where our services can bring success for both employers and candidates. At this time we have noted a shortage of technicians. This is a shortage which must be addressed urgently.

The shortage of technicians needed to fill motor industry jobs has been a frequent subject in the news during 2017. An interesting aspect of it has been that it is a worldwide trend. By looking at how other nations are managing this issue we can learn how to further enhance our role in the UK automotive recruitment sector.

We have noted a number of reasons for this shortage. An important one to highlight is the increased need for technicians. There are an ever increasing number of vehicles on our roads each passing year. For the last 5 years this increase has not been met with a similar rise in the number of technicians working in the sector.

Another factor is the specialist skills required for many types of vehicles on the road today. Technological advances have made cars considerably more complex equipment than they once were. In driving the automotive recruitment sector forward we always encourage applicants in the field to take courses and training so that they can master the new and required technology of today.

It should, however, be noted that it is not just new cars which need technicians. Coutts, famous for being the Queen’s bank, has noted that the value of classic investment cars has fallen by some 10% in the last year. The main reason for this is a lack of technicians able to restore such vintage vehicles.

We know that one of the best ways to address this shortage is through our automotive recruitment services. For many years we have been the number one name for several companies seeking to make long term, successful appointments. We are very proud of the record we have when it comes to the appointment of technicians to motor industry jobs.

If you are an auto mechanic looking for the right role in the industry we would like to hear from you. Our team of automotive recruitment experts will be delighted to assist you in finding the perfect role for your skills.

Please call us on 01904 628 077 to discuss how we can help you.
