Horiba’s new investment

Mira, the British automotive company that has been providing testing facilities for manufacturers of various vehicles since 1945, has been purchased by Horiba. The Japanese company has acquired it for an undisclosed sum and has great plans for the future of the company, including creating a transportation research hub in the West Midlands by 2022. Aston Martin’s plans for the future

Aston Martin is one of the most beloved British automobile brands but it has had a turbulent history, suffering through periods of feast and famine. In 2012 the company had losses of £36 million. The following year this figure was down to £25 million, but this is still a huge loss to bear. Their new chief executive Andy Palmer was appointed in October with the challenge of turning the fortunes of the company around in the next six years. How will the Budget affect the motor industry?

As the summer Budget was announced earlier this week, we have learned that there are going to be changes made to the UK’s vehicle excise duty (VED) system. From 2017, the current system will be mostly scrapped. Instead, varying VED rates will apply to newly registered vehicles depending on how much CO2 they emit. After the first year, it will be a flat rate of £0 for cars which emit no CO2, and £140 for all other vehicles, apart from those worth more than £40,000, which will face an extra £310 charge. It was also stated that from 2020, all revenue resulting from this tax will be used to improve the road systems in the UK. Continue Reading
